The wind howled and the rain came down, soaking the young woman. She glared as she looked at the heavy clouds, was it really necessary for it to rain like this now? Althea let out a sigh, there was little she could do about the weather. After all no human could control what the weather would do, she had heard rumours that some of the plagued could control the weather but then she had never witnessed this to know if it was true or not. Few humans had witnessed the abilities of the plagued, not even the thieves were willing to take that risk. People were constantly reminded just how dangerous the plagued were, and few were willing to find out just how true the stories were. Althea had thought about seeking out the plagued, to find her brother but a part of her was too scared to find out. What if the stories were true about the plagued? What if the truth was much worse? But then a tiny voice would every now and then pop up asking, what if the stories weren't true? What if those plagued were just scared? Scared of the humans who judged them so harshly and scared of themselves? Althea had come across an old diary a few weeks ago, hidden among the books she had stolen, that seemed to be written by someone who must have somehow managed to see someone he cared about becoming infected with the plague. In the writings had it been mentioned that the plagued had little to no memory of their life before becoming plagued. This diary had triggered a thought pattern to keep occuring.
Althea's mind just seemed to be playing on a continuous loop, going over and over all the stories she had been told growing up about the plague. The same thought kept on popping up, was she willing to possibly lose everything over a hunch? She wasn't sure but everytime she stopped paying attention, she found herself travelling closer and closer to where the fabelled town of the plagued was located. Althea bit her lip, knowing that she was most likely making the biggest mistake of her life. She leaned forward in to saddle to give her rugged bay a half-hearted pat on the neck. Maybe it was the biggest mistake of her life but what if she found her brother? Then maybe, just maybe this mad venture would all be worth it. Her ultimate act of rebellion towards the kingdom that had destroyed her once happy family. Somedays it seemed as though everything that had gone wrong in her life could be blamed on the nobility. They had made decisions that had affected her family and had destroyed her world. Sure maybe their actions hadn't been directly aimed at her family but their actions had led to her parents deaths. She let out an angry sigh, stopping herself thinking about that again. All she was doing was making herself upset, and being upset now would not help her. It would just cause her to get lost and getting lost would help no one.
Althea looked around her groaning as she realised that she was heading too far east, at this rate it would be easier for her to simply turn back and find that healer woman to ask for directions. Then again apart from that one time she had met the woman she had never seen her again. Althea was not about to start a manhunt for some one who clearly wanted to remain hidden, she respected the wishes of those who wanted to remain hidden. She had been a thief long enough to know somethings were better kept secret, keeping secrets was part of the trade. A thief that couldn't keep secrets was a dead thief.
