Althea was in a rebellious mood, since the beginning of the war she had been selling mainly weapons and her beloved books had fallen to the wayside. Granted these days it was far more difficult not to just sell books but it was now damn near impossible to get hold of the sorts of books she dealt in. Most of her suppliers were now either being forced to serve in the army or were just too scared to continue smuggling books. Then there were those suppliers who saw smuggling weapons as a far more profitable business, so Althea herself, had been forced to change from books to weapons. Sure she still traded in books from time to time but most of the books she had come across in recent months were books on strategies in war, she didn't understand the appeal but that was the current demand of the market these days.
In her state of rebellion Althea now found herself in the Great Library, to most not the place one would find themselves when rebelling but Althea was more rebelling against the idea of selling weapons. Right now she was meant to have met a contact about a new shipment of weapons, but something instead had lead her to the library. She breathed in the scent of thousands of books, feeling a sense of calm come over her. She had had little time for reading since the war had begun, her work for the thieves meant she was constantly travelling, meeting clients, sneaking in and out of Byzantir. Althea walked down the aisles, scanning the books on the shelves, looking for a title that might interest her. She pulled a book out at random, not even bothering in the end to see what the title was.
Althea found a quiet corner, out of the way and sat on the floor not bothering to find a table to sit at. She curled her legs underneath herself and opened the heavy book. It seemed that the book was on the history of the city of Mercarias, she frowned as she read the text. It seemed as though the book was missing large sections of the history, there were times it spoke about a massive battle yet nowhere was there any information about the actual battle. Questions began forming, and Althea shut the book feeling frustrated. Yet another book that created more questions than it answered. What on earth had happened to cause the history of Escar to be so murky?
