Name: Althea Silverstar Age: 20 Personality: If one had to describe Althea in one sentence it would Headstrong and fiercely independent. Once apon a time she had naive beliefs about the world around her but those were destroyed by her brother being plagued and the death of her parents. She learnt at a young age how cruel the world can be and it has made her closed off to most people emotionally. This is purely a defense mechanism, she lost those she cared most about and never wants to go through that pain again. Rather not get close than risk the pain of losing someone or being hurt through their actions. Because of this she struggles to trust others, she’s always looking for a hidden agenda in their actions. Her time with the thieves hasn’t improved her mistrust of others, infact in someways it’s made it worse. Being a thief means you have to always be looking over your shoulder, there’s always someone who wants to gain status by capturing a thief or looking to score from a deal gone wrong. This means that Althea has gotten into the habit of always having a knife on her hidden incase she’s attacked. This quality has saved her life a few times but also means she struggles to make friends. Even with her mistrust she is curious about the world around her. Since being taken in by the thieves she was taught to read and write which opened up a whole new world to her. Althea’s favourite items to steal are antique books from before the war. She is curious to find out more about the strange magical creatures mentioned in these books and searches constantly for clues about where these books are hidden. The few books that do still exist that speak about the old magic that once filled the land are all hidden as if their existence was known to royalty then they would be destroyed and their owners executed. Althea wants to learn more about the strange creatures the Epei and try understand why the war started. She knew it was a dangerous obsession, but she also wanted to know what was it about the old magic that those in power feared so much. History: Althea was born to parents of an extremely low income. Her father was a foot soldier for a house of nobility. Which house he served under is a faded memory that she does not wish to remember. Royalty and nobility are to blame for her loses in life, the less she remembers of those within the house that treated her with kindness the better. From a young age she was taught to use a bow and arrow for hunting. Meat was expensive to buy so her father would often hunt for his own and then also use his kills as a means for an extra income. Life when she was young although there was little material wealth was still good. She had kind parents who loved each other and treasured her dearly, as well as an older brother who apart from the usual sibling teasing, cared deeply for his little ‘Thea’. When Althea was 9 her brother left, no one said where he went or why all she knew was suddenly her parents never spoke of him again. When she asked once what had happened to him, she was shushed and told never to speak of him again. As far as she could tell everyone around her suddenly acted as if he never existed. His few possessions all vanished, except what Althea managed to steal. She stole his bow that he had painstakingly worked on. As she grew older, she finally realised that her brother had been forced to leave. Althea slowly grew more and more angry with the world around her, not just her parents but also the society that forced them to deny the existence of their son. She began to hate the society that she grew up in, that forced her to live in poverty because of the fact that she happened to be born into a family that had no royal or noble blood in it so was therefore seen as a lesser person. As she grew older restrictions and taxes became worse, hunting was outlawed and her family suddenly lost the income from hunting as no one was willing to buy game. The Nobility and Royalty were now the only ones allowed to hunt and any caught were punished by hanging. Needless to say her father continued hunting in order to feed his family as he believed that death by hanging was far better than a slow death of starvation. When Althea was 15 her worst fear of her father being caught came to pass, soon after her mother became sick with a fever. Her mother, heartbroken, never even put up a fight. Althea took her few possessions, including her brother’s bow, and left. She headed to the dark woods, having no plan of where she was going or even how she would provide for herself. When the thieves found her, she was freezing cold and completely lost. They took her in and soon Althea was learning all there was to know about being a thief. |
