Althea pulled her cloak tighter around her and glared at the heavy clouds in the sky. Why did it always seem as though whenever she had business in Byzantir then the weather would conspire against her and throw something like sleet, hail or in this case rain at her. Not only was rain highly inconvenient but it could damage her precious cargo. This particular client had a love for collecting old books on various herbs used for medicinal purposes. Althea had managed to come by an extremely old manual, it's age wasn't all that made it valuable but it also had mentions of magic being used in healing various ailments. Books that contained more than hints of magic were near impossible to come by, those that had survived the war had mainly been collected by royalty and destroyed. Just simply possessing books on magic was punishable by death, which of course meant that was exactly what Althea dealt in. Books were her speciality and her clients paid well for black market books especially those that contained any mention of magic. Her business was booming, especially since the rumours had began spreading about those who contained magic that had began appearing in towns. They appeared with no apparent memory of who they were or where they came from. People wanted to know more about magic, as it seemed that magic had something to do with the sudden appearance of the plagued. The plagued had caught Althea's attention and questions had begun forming in her mind. Questions about her brother and his disappearance. She had always wondered what had really happened to him and now slowly old forgotten trains of thought had begun picking up speed once more. She had so many questions yet did not know who could give her the answers she craved. Her parents were long dead and as resourceful as the thieves were, it would be far too dangerous of her to expect them to find out those answers. Althea walked the great road deep in thought, luckily the weather meant that there were few travellers besides her. Otherwise she would have bumped into someone and risk losing her precious package. |
