THE PLAGUE |
The humans of Aurora have only just settled after a long standing war against any and all magical beings or creatures. But something terrible has started destroying the lives they have created in their cozy towns and cities. This plague, known only as 'The Scourge' has recently began spreading through the Southern Hills. It is fast, and it is certainly unpleasant but it does not just kill the victim, that would be far too easy. Anyone who falls victim to the scourge will find themselves with strange and unwanted magic. The very thing they have fought against for centuries. Guidelines Updated 02/02: You may choose to be a plagued character right from the beginning but note that making a human does not necessarily prevent you from later becoming plagued. Updated 02/02: Victims of the Plague cannot remember most (if not all) of their Relationships intially If your character suffers the plague, most of the emotional connections made in their human life will be lost. Humanity after all was the gift from The Great Mother , in exchange for their new life their humanity has suffered greatly. How severe this affects your character will be up to you, however your character will not be able to feel the same about their friends, family members, or lovers as they did before. During this time there may be triggers (such as aspects of their past lives) that set off past memories. These memories will either grow or fade, depending on how much attention your character pays to it. Those affected by the plague will have magic, but they will not automatically have control over this Someone who had been plagued will have only just woken up to find magic within them, they cannot control this well enough to be an all powerful or all knowledgeable being. They will need time to train themselves. You will not wake up and instantly be able to blast away your enemies with an invisible force, or light a candle without setting fire to your house. Magic is wild. If your character has been plagued, they will automatically be shunned by other Humans While giving each person magic, the plague causes the society that for so long has warred against to turn their back on them. Close family and friends will likely still have a deep emotional connection to the person who has been plagued, however everyone else will shun them. If your character is plagued, be aware that other characters will likely treat them very differently than before. If your character has not been plagued, but someone they know has then your character should not ignore this fact. It is part of the society they will in. Those with magic are shunned by all. By the decree of the King, all those who are plagues will be branded on the left shoulder. Brand Symptoms The plague does not take long to take hold of it's victim. The following are symptoms of the plague. If a symptom is in bold it is a key sign that the change will happen. (include them in your posts running up to the plague finally taking over)
Abilities . Characters who have been affected by the plague will change significantly mainly due to the presence of magic in their person. For centuries the humans had pleaded with The Great Mother for magic, to give them equal standing with the other magical beings. But she had refused. This resulted in the war of men, a fact all humans have now forgotten. The plagued however, will be gifted by The Great Mother with magic, her blessing will give them life once more following their agonising death. Updated 12/01: Each character must have a main 'set' of abilities. This means that they should specialise in a type of magic (However, this does not exclude them from having a weak affinity with other types of magic. E.g. a strong healer may be able to conjour slight rain fall or light a candle, but cannot conjour a massive storm or mould fire). Please make sure your character is not over powered. There must be some cost for magic - each spell takes from your character's energy reserves, some more than others. Remember that it's no fun to RP with a godlike character. If in doubt, PM Eleanor Arana. Examples of abilities
